Sungawila - Thamabala Situation

Today we reached Polonnaruwa about 11.30. Polonnaruwa was cold like Nuwaraeliya. It started drizzling. The city was calm. We went to Sungawela, along lankapura somawathie road. We visited Thambala Alhilal central school, where an about 400 muslin children, women and men were staying. They had lost their farms and cattle. As they said about 3000 of 5000 cattle were dead, which was also confirmed by Navy.

Their paddy fields and irrigation systems destroyed. It will be at least 6 months before harvasting again. The women said that there kitchen utensils were washed away. Children said their school bags, books and uniforms washed away. They need basic items like soap, toothpaste too.

It will be days that they can return to homes. The water is still not receding for them to return to homes.
The public health inspectors, police and local polticians are very helpful.

They have sent lorry loads of rice to tsunami victims, now they are in distress need assistance from south.
